If you're going to hold past warranty I'd seriously consider getting an extended warranty on this one. They are a great car when they are going but a few too many engine issues.

There's just a higher incidence of engine failure with the 118TSI engine than you'd normally expect from a new car.
Having said that I have a friend who has a 2011 118TSI, has had no issues with it and loves it. It's a great little engine. Just if you want to keep it longer term I'd be keeping an extended manufacturer warranty and keeping it regularly maintained as per the book (which you should do anyway).
