Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Hi all! new member looking to purchase a Mk6 GTI!!!

    Hey all!

Just introducing myself to the forums. I joined because I am very interested in purchasing a Golf GTI Mk6 DSG within the next few weeks and wanted to find out more about the car from its owners (same thing i did before purchasing my Lexus IS250 a few years ago and it has lead me to meet new people and give me valuable information on the car)

I am looking for a Mk6 GTI under the 30k mark but can look at some which are more since i will be able to negotiate. I really don't mind any colour for the GTI as I will eventually fully vinyl wrap it. My questions were:
how do I know if a GTI has the navigation system from photos of the dash? (all of them seem to have a screen in the dash but only a few say that they have navigation)
which year models have the LED DRL head lights?
should I look for one with stock xenons or just get the standard headlights and put aftermarket xenons? (i just hate the yellow look from the stock bulbs)

Also, just some of my plans for the GTI after purchase, ASAP:
    Golf R LED rear lights
resonator delete (heard a few clips on youtube and it sounds nice without being too loud)
some aftermarket intake (recommendations would be great! as i heard it is the easiest way to get more sound from the turbo)
gloss black roof vinyl (still considering if i can purchase a white one, but dunno if it would look good or not)

    later on:
    APR Stage 2 tune
    Coilovers

Thank You. I hope you join you guys soon at a few meets!

    Welcome to forums

Depending on how good the pictures are, you'll be able to tell from pictures if the unit has the NAV button on the top right of the unit, RNS510 is the unit you're after if you want OEM unit

Others can correct me, but I'm pretty sure LED DRL were an option for all?

and xenons depends on your budget really, it'd obviously be easier to find a GTI with stock xenons, and you really don't want to be putting aftermarket xenons into stock reflector headlights...

hope you find your GTi soon!
