Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Hi, from a newbie, 2yr old onlooker and owner of a 07' VW Touareg V6 TDI.

    Hi All,

Yes, I have put off this introduction for a while now, having signed up some time ago and onlooking for a couple of years< that was a bit of a mouthful.

About me: Well I live in the 'currently' sunny Mid North Coast, I'm female of course, 28yrs old, horse lover, owner and breeder; fleet management and maintenance, is my main role in my day job and I am the proud owner of my first VW Touareg V6 TDi 07 7L facelift in midnight blue with a big moon roof and all other options, I love it.

Why I purchased a touareg: Towing ability 3500kg, fuel consumption, luxury/options, engine size (I wanted a V6 in diesel). Purchased in July 2011, second hand in perfect condition with 97,000kms it was our dream car and now with 170,000kms it has performed amazingly. I researched thoroughly prior to purchase weighing up the negatives and positives and to this day glad I decided to buy one and I would all over again.

What I have learnt: Services costs, well all cars seem to cost a lot these days serviced at a dealer, I have especially taken notice within my role in fleet management, so I don't find they cost any more than others. Brake pads, ok these hit me with a $2000 bill, but that's what you get for quality and when you wear your pads almost at the same rate as your discs, I think I had these changed at 115,000km mark and these were its 2nd set in its life. Centre Bearing... Now this is one thing I seemed to have missed in my research, which could have prevented a change in holiday plans and allowed me to monitor it every service. I did however, successfully repair my drive shaft for an outstanding price of $80.00 (the price of the after market centre bearing) with a little help from a mechanic I work with, it has not skipped a beat after repair and re installation, very pleased with my accomplishment there.

Why I have joined: well I still enjoy researching my touareg in relation to mods, repairs, extras, maintenance etc on all forums including Club Touareg. And specifically to post a big thank you to "Transporter" for his post on Touareg V6 TDI DIY and Maintenance; I have visited this post time and time again. I would also to ask if "Transporter” can outline services up to and including 200,000kms please, i would like to start performing the services myself well the basics anyway. Funny enough, the supplied maintenance book does not always point out everything in the service for example, I think it was the 135,000km service I was told to change the transmission fluid, some dealers don’t know this?? I had mine done however a friend did not. I also, at some stage when I work out how to upload videos and pictures would be happy to share all pictures and videos regarding my centre bearing carrier replacement, might help a few people out there as it can be quite simple if your one of those mechanically minded persons who are very particular in perfection and accuracy, marking with a white marker being one of the keys here and firm but delicate hand.

What I still need to learn:Headlight globe changing.. oh dear, one day I get it in seconds clip released perfectly; and I'm talking unplugging the harness from the back of the headlight the next I just cannot get it, I'm trying to release the clip all wrong and totally forgot how to do it, while interpreting all the info provided to me in mumble jumble lol. GRRR a lot of frustration, I think I need someone to show me one day, video it and then replay when I need to change them on my own.

In Conclusion: Sorry this has been a long post, good to be able to talk cars and all this related on a forum where I'm sure most of you can relate, certainly a change from my horsey world. I have learnt a lot about my touareg, passionate about its care and maintenance and happy to share all that I have learnt with them.

    Thanks for your time.

    Best regards

    Charrlise.
Working...
