Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Need a VW Mechanic in Sydney

    Hi All,

I have a 2002 model VW Golf and I've generally taken it to Barloworld, Mascot whenever it needs servicing. It's always ridiculously expensive, and I've just been quoted at $780 to get my front passenger door unjammed. This feels incredibly over the top and I was hoping someone could direct me to a Sydney-based VW mechanic who could fix it for cheaper.

They unjammed the back passenger door last time it was serviced and I'm pretty sure 50% of the costs weren't taken up by the door.

    PLEASE HELP!

Since you take yours to Mascot I'm assuming you live in the area.

Take it to Euro Car Full Service Mechanic in SydneyVW Village in Kensington. Close to UNSW.

Thanks Ziggyboy, I'll give them a call. I live in Surry Hills which isn't too far, although I work in North Sydney.

Door jammed usually means replacement of the catch assembly which are over $400 each before labour.Pain in the neck job and can take quite some time.

Thanks, yes I've been quoted anywhere between $450 and $700 depending on how long it takes to unjam the door initially. Labour will be either 10 mins or 1 hour. Either way, I still owe Barloworld $150 for diagnosis.

Thanks so much for your help.
