Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • New 2002 Bora V6 4Motion Owner - NSW

    Hi Folks,

I've just bought a 2002 Bora V6 4Motion which has belonged to my boss since new, although it's been his spare car for the last 7 years.

It's done 163,000, is completely stock at present (although has the Oettinger grill on it, but not sure what else that entails) and is in reasonable condition for its age. I've bought it as a daily driver, to share duties with my 1974 German Look Super Beetle. I've gone the VW route because of my air-cooled ride, and because I've loved this car since my boss first bought it. I might be a bit stupid effectively owning two hobby cars and trying to share daily driver duties between them, but I have a loving wife who puts up with it with minimal grumbling.

I also decided that I'd be much better off buying a car that depreciation has already had its full effects on, so when I spend money on it, it's because of improvements I want to make and will enjoy, rather than watching money disappear on a new car!

At this stage I've got a few things planned for it:
    * New stereo (so I can have MP3 and Bluetooth) along with new speakers and a slim line sub-woofer.
    * New wheels (which I'll do a separate post on). Considering some BBS CK wheels in 18x8
    * Slightly lower the suspension
    * Replace the headlights (again I'll ask in another post about the angel eye ones from the UK)
    * Replace the headliner (it was once borrowed for two years by a smoker so hoping getting rid of that will get rid of the lignering smell, plus get rid of the smoke stains)
    * Get the steering wheel re-covered. A few too many cuts in the leather at the moment.
    * Get some minor dents sorted out from what looks like shopping centre trolley incidents

The only mechanical issue I know of is a noisy air con compressor, but I'm just going to wait till it dies before replacing it.

Anyway, I think that's all for now, once things have actually changed I'll start posting some photos. Any and all ideas, hints, tips, warnings, suggestions are welcome.

    Cheers
    Craig

      Welcome Craig.

Lots of your plans have been covered before in the mk4 section, so hopefully you can find some answers there.
