Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hi I have been an occasional visitor to the forums since I bought my 09 1.8TSI Superb with 9000k on the clock in 2010. It is now out of warranty and I have only done 20k in just under 3 years.
The car has been terrific during my ownership with very little done under warranty - the major exception being the replacement of the DSG clutches at 21k due to an intermittent shudder going from 1st to 2nd gear. It does use a little oil, and I got quite a shock when the oil light came on one day, so I now keep a litre in the boot. It is not too bad though,as I am still on the original 5 litre container that I bought a couple of years ago; I figure that using 1 L per 4000 or 5000 is not enough to warrant a claim.
Fuel economy on a trip has been amazingly good and on a recent trip from Bendigo to Melbourne, driving at the posted speeds (mostly 110) it averaged 5.4 L/100 - pretty good for such a large lump of metal; it's a lot heavier in stop start motoring of course!
Anyhow, I have enjoyed reading posts and I have now joined up so I can contribute where I think I can add something useful to other members. Cheers all.
