Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC Hello All. Prospective 130TDI Passat Wagon buyer.

    Hey All,

Haven't quite made the plunge yet, but I test drove a 130TDI Passat Wagon on the weekend. It was VERY nice! I'm not far off committing, but had a couple of questions I was hoping the experts in the Passat forum can answer.

    Cheers,
    Syntic

I was going to ask in the Passat area, but I see you've got 2011 with 12-way seats, so you may be able to answer for me.

I test drove a wagon on the weekend, but it didn't have the 12-way seats (only the standard w/ Nappa leather seats). I was attempting to work out exactly what adjustments can be done on the 12-way seats. Specifically what I'm looking for is the option to raise the front of the seat base, supporting behind the knees (if that makes sense). I tried to do this in the standard seats, but even with the seat all the way lowered, I still didn't have enough support behind my knees. I've got long legs so as a result they're usually pretty well bent when I'm driving, so I like to have that support.

Are you able to tell me if that function is supported on the 12-way seats?

Well I am 6'2" so have long legs as well.

Yes you can tilt the cushion to get more support but you can in the ordinary ones as well.

Dont know how much you want but I have my seat a fair way back so my underthighs are not up in the air,

I prefer to drive with arms extended and not like a NASCAR driver with the wheel under my chin

Also have seatback fairly upright as I like a good view and not like a young ricer lying down when driving LOL
        .
You went the wrong way you will get more support if you raise the seat and tilt the front up.

IMHO the 12 ways are a waste of money because once you get it where you want it it never gets touched.

The lumbar support is quite good and variable but once again set and forget.

I dont have mine too high because then the rear view mirror intrudes in my view.

Same in the Polo seat is lowered to see under the mirror I have done a couple of non stop 500k trips in both and can honestly say I was never uncomfortable in either

If anything the Polo seats have more side support than the Passat ones do.

If I was you I would go back and try lifting the seat higher and then tilt the squab and see what its like.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I hadn't used the controllers properly. I'll have to get down the to dealer and spend some time in the seat.
I also had some trouble locating the lever to adjust the wheel while I was driving (found it afterward), so I might need to set that up a bit better for next test drive....

          Cheers again

I havent actually driven one with the ordinary seats but the brochure says they are height etc adjustable.

The wheel tilts and goes forward and back Best not adjusted when moving however LOL

Some dealer must have a flash one to try
