  • TAS New here - want to learn more re VW Polo DSG issues

    Hi
I am in Tassie driving a 1994 Toyota Vienta. It has been a loyal friend but at 202 000 km it is getting tired so I am in the market for a VW (yes, I mean it) Polo with a 7 speed DSG (yes, that, too..).

I found this forum because I am interested in what the hype around the VW recall is all about.

Hope to meet some enthusiasts who can share their stories!

    Cheers, Fumbi

True. Toyota is reliable, the Camry / Vienta has been great. A few years ago some might have argued a VW is more reliable than a Toyota.

It pains me to see a great European brand like VW being trashed by the Australian media when some of the probs with the DSG gearbox seem to be drivers not knowing how to treat a DSG. VW ia doing thr right thing now and recalling to replace the electronics component in their models. The question is will that fix the issue or will it reoccur ( as some have reported ).

Over in Germany ( where i am from ) VW is considered middle of the range only, not bad not great. The POLO has always been regarded unbreakable until the late 1990 when production was moved overseas and no longer produced in Germany. The best car to this day is the Golf GTI. Unfortunately outside my budget.

Time will tell. The hype arousn the recall may just blow over like so many recalls do.
