vw transporter not happy

i run a sanding business and have had 5transporters
but went thru a puddle 400mmm deep and stuffed my motor 7 weeks of the road
8 months later clutch problems they tried to fix 7 times by replacing clutch presure plate slve and master cylinder
off the road 3 day 4 days two weeks two weeks and another two weeks as they tried to trace the problem
then the gear box jammed up so they pulled it down to find water in it and then claim back to insurance 4 weeks later the dealer is given go ahead and now informs me it should be ready in about 4 weeks time as there is no gearbox in the country and they have to bring one in not happy not happy

Could have happened to anything if you drove through that much water How fast were you going through it.

I think you are very lucky insurance paid as usually if there is that much water over a road it is closed and shouldnt be driven on.

The important thing is, the dealer is doing all they can to help you out.

Since the catalyst for the issues the vehicle has was you driving though a deep puddle, they could've easily wiped their hands of it.

Something every vehicle driver should know is exactly where the air intake actually is. Basically if you get water over the bonnet (it does not have to be that deep, just that the bow wave sees it over the bonnet), then chances are you will end up trying to compress water (which is incompressible). The result will be broken/bent conrods, and/or a broken crankshaft. Either way, expensive.

Basically, if the water is deep enough to touch the underside of the vehicle, don't try and drive through it. If you must, then it is crawling speed.
