Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Newbie with deader than dead DSG

Hi! Am not really that into cars (especially mine this week), but want to stop by and make a few posts as I'm going through the DSG issue on an automatic 2009 Golf 118TSI that has only done 30,000km. I had to get it towed on Friday as it died in the middle of an intersection with my two kids in the back (not happy). Amazingly, there have been no fights about it having the clutch pack replaced under the new five year warranty and I thought people would like to know that. I'm unsure if this will solve the problem entirely and I'm unsure if I'm going to keep the car as I simply don't trust it anymore. Anyway, thought people might like to know that VW seem to be honouring that five year warranty retrospectively (and I wasn't attached to a dealer, had my last service done at a local mechanic etc.).

Thanks for the reply! I asked about that, but they don't seem to think it's an issue. Has everyone else found they've had to go back for the Mechatronic unit fix? Any advice anyone can give would be awesome. Totally freaked me out stopping in an intersection like that and limping to the side of the road. We're really lucky there was no traffic coming either way.

Large portion of DSG issues are Mechatronic, so i would hassle them to replace it.

Thanks everyone for the advice! The dealer and VW were very quick to replace the clutch pack and no hassles there, but VW refuse to replace the Mechatronic unit, despite us asking several times as there is 'nothing wrong with it'. Our response: 'yet'.
