Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Newbie from Perth - Golf R!

    Hey all,

Just joined up & TIA for having me, I guess.

Just bought a Mk6 Golf R a month or so ago...
Been into cars (mostly Turbo) for a while now and also pretty keen on bikes.

Look forward to being part of the community!

Hey Gareth, Thanks for the welcome!

White, DSG with leather. Ill definitely mod it at some point - just depends how far I want to go, I guess.

Still getting my head around all of the new information. Im not new to the modding game - my last couple cars have been an R32 GTR Skyline, a BF Falcon XR6T ute and then a BF F6 R-spec, all of them modded to a varying degree... Im still in the process of selling some bits off my F6, so that should free up a little cash to play with. Also got a new bike that I am wanting to splash out on!

Iv just had the car tinted by the guys at TKO and I am on the lookout for some KW coilovers & will look at some new wheels. From there, ill start having a peek at the tuning stuff, but like the look of some of the APR kit.

also suss out Bilstein and Koni for coilovers. I had the Koni on my S3 and they were great.

For rims, depending on what you are looking for, check out VAG 5x112, BM Autosport Ltd

fantasticc wheels at great prices, I bought a set for my S3

If you need more of a steer let me know

          Will do, thanks again Gareth!

Yeah - I know in most circles Bilstein & Koni have a pretty good rep... I guess I had just read of quite a few people rocking the KW's, although I hadnt heard to much about them before. For wheels, Im probably looking at some BBS, or VMR's if I want to cheap out.

Ill definitely keep it in mind and ill give you a shout when the time comes.
          Thanks!

I dont think so... Well, not that I am aware of anyways.

I am sure VW would have made a point of charging me extra for it, if the car did have it and I dont recall seeing anything about it or being told about it by them, so id have to say no...

Does it make a big difference?
I think I read that it can limit your choice in Coilovers because only certain types work with the ACC?

Hi mate and welcome. Hopefully you are enjoying your new R.
I never had ACC on my car, although it would of been nice to have i don't believe it is a necessity at all.

If your car has ACC you will have the comfort - sport switch as per the pic below.

I only ask as I v been in a thew R,s with ACC and coilovers that are plug and play for the ACC and I'd say the KW are the best and the latetest ones can be controlled by iPhone. They are great on track and then with a quick change it feels like a cloud on the way home.

Thats pretty cool... Sounds like a great feature on the KW's.
Having said that, I mustn't have the ACC, dont have the comfort - sport switch pictured above.

Anyhow, slowly getting my head around what is needed to improve the car.
They seem a great platform out the box, but a few tweaks here and there would be nice!
