Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • WA Possible future Polo 77 owner....

Hi guys, im looking into purchasing an MY13 Polo 77tsi manual in the next couple of weeks (was quoted $19k driveaway), and i've test driven the car already and very impressed with it overall, but im worried about reliability issues as I keep reading about it everywhere. So basically, what are the more common "issues" on this particular car? What could I expect to arise, be it an issue with a known fix or something which is simply a characteristic issue that can't be fixed permanently?

Apart from taking the car in for its scheduled servicing, my line of work means I don't really have the time to bring the car into a service centre because of some annoying little issue popping up every so often.

Electrical issues common? As I was driving out of the dealership, I noticed a new Passat wagon with one side of its tail light not working. I was told by my colleague that these little things a common with european vehicles?

I keep seeing posts about high engine oil consumption? Is this engine effected or does it only affect the GTI models?

Thanks in advance for the advice guys.

    Welcome to VWW.

By aiming for the 77TSI in manual I reckon you're dodging a lot of the more common issues that afflict other Polos (DSG or oil consumption in the GTI). No guarantees in life of course, every vehicle can have issues, but we also have a Polo 77TSI manual and in almost six months/8000km of ownership it has not missed a beat yet.

Definitely worth perusing the Polo section in more detail though, plenty of guides and assistance available in there.

I bought a 77tsi dsg in September last year. Drove from Albury to Sydney and back fro nationals and ticked over 20500km and have not had any problems at all. still love the little beast. and is still awesome off the line even with 5 grown men in it (as i found out in Sydney). very fun car.
