Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Polo 9n3 Gti, Sydney

    Hi All,

I'm from Sydney and originally immigrated from the UK with my family in around 95.
I've always been a fan of VW's and remember drooling over Corrado's with TSW Venom's in the latest edition of Max power as a kid.
My first cars were the family hand me down Corrolla followed by a Swift.
I went back to the UK in around 2000 and after leaving a restaurant one night I walked through a VW dealer on my way back to the hire car, sitting there was a brand new Mk4 R32 Golf in Blue and the memories came flooding back.. Ive been hooked again ever since.

    I've had a Mk4 Golf, a couple of 9n3 Polo Gti's and currently have a 2008 model in Black.

I've found a great community of Australian based VW fans here at vwc and look forward to contributing.

    Cheers.

    Welcome to the forum.

I bought the very first issue of Max Power, it came with a baseball cap. I remember it clearly as I was at a petrol station on the A30 heading for Newquay. The head gasket blew on my MK1 GTI and I was "waiting for a mate" to come and pick me up. Halcyon days.

Wow, posting that actually makes me remember a few other things like my older step brother (of 6 years) has restored several beetles and a karmann ghia in the UK, also remember him handing me the keys to his Mk1 GTi when I was about 18 and letting me take it for a spin as well as sleeping in the Pop top during visits to France in the wagon..

I guess all this has subconsciously shaped my love for them

All the Air cooled fans used to drive to Newquay and jam up the roads. I used to giggle at all the ones that were dead at the side of the M5. They couldn't handle 3 hours at 70mph in the left lane and seized up. LOL. ALthough, maybe karma got me back once with the headgasket on the GTI??
