Been wanting to take more interest in cars, and now seems to be the right time. Owner of a Passat that was purchased for safety and economy. Stumbled across this seemingly excellent forum as soon as I really started looking around for expert advice.

Injector failed big time
My wife was driving our 2008 Passat 2.0TDI on the Hume with my son when the injector failed and car shut down. Horrifying experience and a very close call with trucks, etc. RACV took it to Myrtleford, where the problem was diagnosed. It is a year over warranty, and has done 66,000 kms. It will cost $700 minimum just to get it to Melbourne VW workshop! I've just been reading about the injector "campaign". What can I expect? We're feeling pretty despondent about this. Any advice anyone?Originally posted by Jeffster View PostBeen wanting to take more interest in cars, and now seems to be the right time. Owner of a Passat that was purchased for safety and economy. VW offers 5 or 7 years of warranty on injectors, take it to a dealer and they will replace the injectors and injector harness under warranty for you.Originally posted by Jeffster View PostMy wife was driving our 2008 Passat 2.0TDI on the Hume with my son when the injector failed and car shut down. Play the "dangerous, family in the car" card really hard. And the fact you know it's not an isolated case, even if they claim they have never seen one.

Exactly, these cases are seen on a day to day basis, but you will hardly find any dealership that is going to give you a hard time for these claims, abit hard for a dealer to reject a $4000+ injector claim when Volkswagen themselves will pay for the part and labour, more $$ in dealers pockets...Originally posted by h100vw View PostPlay the "dangerous, family in the car" card really hard. Thanks for the advice, volk. I'm now reading other people's posts about this going back to 2011. Seems like I should have been told about it before we had this foreseeable experience. I read the media pretty carefully and haven't seen any reports of a campaign. I wonder whether its a 'campaign' that VW want to win? Or what constitutes 'success' with the campaign? Our car is still $800 (300km) from the dealer. Will let you know what happens.Originally posted by The One View PostExactly, these cases are seen on a day to day basis, but you will hardly find any dealership that is going to give you a hard time for these claims, abit hard for a dealer to reject a $4000+ injector claim when Volkswagen themselves will pay for the part and labour, more $$ in dealers pockets...
