Hey all, I'm Dave from Adelaide's Southern suburbs, have had my mk6 golf GTI for almost a year now, still debating whether or not to start tinkering, although I'm a bit reluctant to do so before new car warranty expires...

Welcome! Depends what you call tinkering. Surely some minor cosmetic mods would be ok....
Understand that maintaining warranty is a concern for a lot of people. Especially for the major mechanical components.
If you do mod it's a risk/reward judgement that you have to take.
But be warned though the mod bug bites hard
Either way you're welcome to come along to our drive days and coffee nights.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Was thinking about at first an ecu reflash...but then I just get all wide eyed when I start to look at new downpipes, better intakes and beyond.
As for cosmetic mods I'd like some LED drls at the very least. I don't want to end up with a real JDM tuner look. That's why I decided to go with the GTI over anything else, I love the subtlety and refinement.
Definitely keen for a drive or coffee night

There's a heap of great info here and you can learn from others successes and failures.
Anyway my suggestion is to work out a budget, then prioritise the mods to fit into your budget. Have a target or end game that you're looking to achieve in terms of looks and performance. Otherwise it just keeps on growing...
The other option is to take all your pay and buy mods and then live on baked beans and pasta until next pay.
Oh yes and cruise day is Sunday: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...ead-84510.html

Welcome Dave! As Tigger has said, come out to our Sunday meet/cruise and say hello, have a chat to some of the guys who've modded and see what you think.
