  • Red MKV GTI Golf

    Hi All,

Got my first VW recently and its a Red MKV GTI golf.

Plans are going to be upgrading to RCD510 and most likely some light cosmetic mods.

    Thanks
    Dan

    Congratulations Dan.

IMO, you should get it GIAC chipped with Tim @ dubaddiction. I got mine done and it felt like a brand new car. RCD510 is an absolute snack to install mate.

Thanks Mate. Im glad I ended up going with the GTI.

Still considering whether to get a tune done..Maybe in time I will.

First thing though I want to get is the RCD510. Ive been doing some research and there is a seller on ebay selling them for $369 brand new but I would also need a new CAN BUS because my car is a 2006.

Does it need to be programmed based on what is in the car now? Going to do the install of the unit myself but just unsure about this CAN BUS.

      Cheers Dan

$369 new? No way buddy. You can grab an RCD510 brand new from most sellers for $250. Then about another $100 for an upgraded L or better CANBUS. Installation of both is an absolute snack for you. If you need help there's plenty of DIY guides.

This one will work fine and has the ability to take a Reverse Camera and an MDI/USB input. Cheap as chips and I also have one in my car with the Reversing Camera and USB input: VW CD Radio RCD510 Jett Passat Golf 5 6 Jetta W Code 5ND035190 | eBay

              Thanks for that.

Is there anyone down in Melbourne that can do the CANBUS and coding?

Tim @ dubaddiction is pretty handy with all that stuff. You could probably get it all done at once with him as long as you throw a bit his way. A nice addition would be a boost gauge as well. Tells you how much boost you're running and helps keep that piece of mind that you're not losing boost. As well as giving the interior a bit more light.

I'm not even sure where Dan is, Craig.

If he's near you I'd definitely recommend you so it's not just me paying for your dinner and lunches on a regular basis.

My Stage 1 tune was the best investment I've made for the GTI from my perspective. Day and night from stock.

Thanks for all the info guys. Definitely will be considering a tune in the near future.

As for the RCD510, think I might have to get in touch with Buckets..

                        Cheers
