Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Bluetooth question and help wanted

Hi everyone, I'm looking for some information or help with adding bluetooth streaming to my car.
I have a 2007 VW Golf MK5 2.0 TDi with the half red dash display. The car came with the standard CD player with the blue screen.
I have since purchased a RCD510 via eBay that comes with the bluetooth module, but without the bluetooth harness.
The bluetooth part number is 1z0035729b and is the 9w3 model. The stereo and module came from the same car.
I already have the iPod connector installed into my stereo by the dealer too.
I'm not concerned so much with handsfree calling but definitely want to stream music from an iPhone 4 and 5.
Any assistance and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
The main information I'm looking for is which bluetooth module will work with my car and the new stereo and if I need to upgrade any part of the car or its computer or CANBUS or recode anything.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ben.

I've since installed the RCD510 and it works perfectly. I had a guy from Lane Cove supply, install and recode a new gateway for me today for $130. This is meant to stop the battery drain issue. He has confirmed for me that the 9w3 Bluetooth unit I have will not stream music via Bluetooth. I'll be looking to get rid of the 9w3 unit and maybe look at a MDI interface.

If your RCD supports a USB input, there is a far cheaper option to the MDI.

Would this display track names from an iPhone?
