Hi!
My first post in this forum, long term VW fan, some history including the following:
- drove my first Golf GTI in Germany in 1979 while on exchange with the British Army. The lark back then was for the boys to buy one tax free in Germany, then drive it back to UK while on holidays and, just by chance, sell it! Much frowned on by HM Customs, but so long as there was no intent, not much to be done. All end users were very happy.
- owned a '94 Golf GL in the late '90s around Sydney, smashed in the great hailstorm, but came up well after a refurb and went on to be a great all round drive.
- the best car I've ever owned, a MK5 R32, only issue was the low profile tyres and Queensland roads, not a good combination. However, loved it to bits, brilliant drive, never had an issue with DSG or any other components (thanks to Mike Webber in Cooparoo for fabulous support).
- traded the R32 for an Audi Allroad to allow some "off the beaten track" time and take the mountain bikes on long treks.
- currently own no car and looking for the next move - maybe an Alltrack?
