Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • DPF

Hi there I own a 2008 mkv golf, gt sport 2.0 TDI.
Lately I've noticed my DPF light coming on constantly.
Starting to get really frustrating as this light comes on about once a week and sick of taking the car for a long drive so the light disappears.
Has anyone ever experienced this problem? If so how can I prevent the DPF light from coming on.
    Thanks

Have it scanned for faults but be prepared for a new DPF at worst of pressure sensor at best.

Greg Roles stripped his DPF and pressure washed it clean. Seems to have done the trick so far, been a few months IIRC.

Miro is the answer - you need your car scanned, and to see how full it is. They only last 100-150,oookms at best, and once full you need to replace it, or wash it out like I did. Miro can help you with that I am sure. Get any exhaust shop to remove it, cut it open and pressure backwash the heck out of it yourself, weld it back up and have Miro reset it all.

Mine is still good as new, the pressure wash works a treat. You just need to mess around with the ash level settings, but I can tell Miro all about that.

A bottle of CERIUM containing DPF cleaner would help do a deep regen, but the simple fact is it may be approaching full. Odd you are seeing lights so frequently though, means the "invisible" 40% loaded regens are failing and you are hitting 50% in a week, hence the light and instructions. After the wash I get about 800-1000kms per regen - happy days.
