  • WA MK5 R32 Perth

    Hi Guys,

Chris from OpelAus here. (Still have the Vectra)

Missus just picked up an MK5 R32 DSG 4-motion today (Purchased from Centre Ford, Ex member's perhaps?) and thought I'd jump on and find some suitable mods etc. Thankfully she's keen for some go fast performance mods!

Unfortunately the R32 seems like a bog standard, cream leather, no sat nav etc. My slight bit of research has led me to believe the RNS510 satnav is the most preferred unit to go for?

Where is the best place to purchase VW parts from online? I imagine, just like the Opel, you're better off buying from online and overseas?

Any tips and advice you can offer will be much appreciated.

    Cheers!

Congratulations Chris on a fantastic purchase.
Welcome to the club, hope you enjoy your stay. You're going to have a lot of fun with that car I can definitely tell you that.
Might I suggest the flapper mod, takes a few minutes to do and I'm happy to send you the instructions on how to do it.

Lots of R32 owners signing up which is good to see..

Think I'd rather just get her to buy a Milltek or Remus ASAP

Wow, you don't waste anytime do you. I'd highly recommend Milltek based on what I've heard in person and from what I've read. Purchasing a Milltek non-resonated exhaust soon.

        OR Supersprint...

That Milltek does sound mint! Can't even find a retailer for Remus Exhaust's in Perth.

I messed around with the exhaust on the Vectra, honestly a waste of time. Might as well just go full exhaust to start with!

Do it right, do it once! will be the motto for the R32.

That's because Remus isn't exactly a popular choice exhaust for the R32. Honestly, its worth doing the flapper mod and seeing what you think before you go full exhaust system as some find it sufficient for everyday driving.

Your better off purchasing parts overseas from the likes of ECS tuning, AwesomeGTI and BKS tuning. Keep Ian @ Rennenhaus handy as well as he's from Sydney.

What sort of mods are you looking at doing?

              Excellent thanks mate.

Looking at the basics, exhaust, intake, go for some slotted brakes (The brakes as standard are 345mm fronts correct?), Either B12 bilsteins with Eibachs (Any other brands that are big with the VW crew? I've only ever run eibachs) or some coils-overs, RARB and grab an OEM Sat Nav hopefully for cheap.

Something that's not on your list that also is worth doing is upgrading the Haldex controller for the gen 2 which I'll be looking at doing in the coming weeks. Plus you can easily swap it back to the original if you ever have to sell the car. Yep, the front rotors are 345mm. Are you looking at getting larger ones or just slotted in the same size? If yes, take a look at some Adams Rotors, DBA or Zimmermann (made in Germany).

Plenty of intake options out there, here's a list of them.

                VF engineering

                Evoms

Forge intake (recently purchased one) Love it. Dead easy to install, looks great. I don't know about power increases but the engine certainly seems to rev freer and makes a nice induction roar at revs.

GruppeM (I like it but it's a bit on the pricey side) try www.xposed.com.au as they should have GruppeM intakes for most cars. And they do sell the GruppeM for the R32.

                Modshack

BMC CDA (awesome induction sound, patended filter design)

I'm yet to go down the coilover route with my R32, seems as though the choices tend to be Bilstein, Vogtland and KW's. Whether you go for V1,2 or 3 its up to you as they vary in prices. In regards to the sway bar I highly recommend you go with H&R due to the long lasting bushings on the H&R's whereas the Whiteline bushings seem to perish and need regular maintenance unless you upgrade them with aftermarket polyurethane bushings. A few of the guys have been going with the koni adjustable shocks or Bilsteins with H&R lowering springs for better ride comfort at lower cost. Also, keep in mind that Eibach doesn't make springs for R32s.

I'll PM you the info for the RNS510. You can pick one up for about $850 delivered to your door from the UK, let me know if you interested and want the contact.

Welcome Chris. Looking fwd to hearing of the development of 'your' 6 potter

**I wondered what happened to the info I 'posted' early this morning. For some reason I wasn't paying attention, and sent you a PM rather than post it here. Sorry about that. Happy to take you for a spin if you want to hear what a non-res Milltek system sounds like.

Noticed one thing tonight.... When selecting ESP off the ESP light constantly flashes. I assume theres an error? Or is it meant to flash at me warning me to calm down and stop being a ****head?

                          EDIT:

All good. Did a search and learnt the 8.5 year R32's can't have traction completely off.

on my RS4, I have 2 settings - press button once turns off traction control, and it flashes or hold button for 5 secs and it turns off TC and ESP also, where light is constantly on
