2000 BORA transmission slipping

Hi everyone, I am a newbee and was wondering if anyone can shed any light on histories of transmissions slipping.

I bought a 2000 Bora 2 ltrs bora for my son however the transmission is slipping in 3rd gear. Just wondering if anyone can advise if this is worth repairing or replacing with a secondhand one?

Any help would be much appreciated.

If its a auto then a over hall is about $3k, seconds hand box you don't know what you are getting to start with. There's a place near the logan hyperdome next to the motorway called M1 AUTO'S. He does really good over hall's of the gen 4 golf auto's as he invested in all the correct gear etc to do the job.....worth a call
