Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Loss of power during acceleration.

    Hello folks!

My VW Golf 2003 1.6 SE is presenting acceleration issues with loss of power.
When I put my foot down on the accelerator from a standing start there is no acceleration unless I back off then slowly increases the accelerator pressure. Sometimes check alternator light comes on and it goes off soon after. I also could hear some spark noise from the engine when running idle with small effect on rpm.

There is an excessive loss of power during up hills or when starting to move once engine is hot.
It always happens when engine is hot, it is not overheating accordingly to the gauge. I can see some dried coolant around some hoses connection.

I have checked my spark plugs and alternator they are fine, more likely i am going to replace my HT Leads and Coil, but not sure if that would solve my problem? Any advice would be highly appreciate!

Also took it to 3 mechanics and no fault was read from engine or problem identified
I'm very scare to take it to the stealers, as they might not solve it and charge me a fortune!

    Cheers guys!

sounds more like a loose connection somewhere in the wiring but hard to say with out driving it. I would be looking for poor earth's / powers etc. 3 mechanics, have any of them had a VCDS to check for fault codes?? .........VDUB......
