  • New Tassie Memeber Here

    G'day All,

Just joined after following along for about 12 months.

Purchased my wife a new MkVI GTI last year, had it tuned at Volkspower (APR Stage 1) before driving it to Tassie and haven't looked back since!

Loved it so much I sold my FPV F6 in January and just purchased myself a MkVI R daily driver. Secondhand purchase this time, picked it up in Sydney, drove to Melbourne to see Dean at Volkspower again. Car already had a CAI and Stage 1 REVO with SPS. DC let me have a quick drive of his Targa R - had no choice after that and drove away with APR Stage 2 (fuel pump, exhaust and tune).

Unfortunately after driving away (and only about 1km) I punctured one of the 19" Conties on the front. A big bit of timber with a huge screw through it. Had to drive from Melbourne to Hobart with the space-saver on - what a bummer!!

New tyres on front once in Hobart and have loved every minute since!

Looking forward to being a part of the VW Golf forum community - I can already thank many of you for your posts as it's really helped me source some add-ons for both the GTI and the R already

Ultimate plan is to track the R - only track day fun - and have been following Fab's build thread for ages.

...next step is VWR brake upgrade and 18" rims (Ultralegera's or OZ Superturismo's??) and some soft track tyres.

Will be looking for some help with the exact spec's and any experience you've had - once 'her indoors' has come to terms with more money being spent on my 'daily driver' - yeah right!

Welcome aboard VWWC mate. For some reason the car you're describing sounds like my mates old Candy White Golf R that was recently for sale and was sold to a gent in Tassie. Would I be right?

If yes, congratulations on what is probably the most immaculate VI R out there

Was his name Mike? It was polished to within an inch of its life regularly I don't think you would ever find something cleaner than his Golf R. It was sold about about a month ago
          Black Talladega's?

Welcome Rod! Will have to keep my eye out for it - is yours the one with personalised plates? I have seen that one a bit lately

My wife's GTI has personalised plates - but I couldn't bring myself to spend over $1000 on plates. I just got the white on black three letter/three number combo in slimline style front and rear. I also got some Larkin plate covers after finding a recommendation on this forum. Have to say Phillip's level of customer service is something to experience!! Fantastic to deal with in every way.
(Have to say I'm pleasantly surprised to learn there are a few VWW members in Tassie as well!)

You've definitely come to the right place Rod for knowledge about Volkswagens.
