Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hail Damaged Skoda

    Hello,

    Just joined the forum.

I recently purchased a new Skoda Superb in Victoria. The vehicle was filthy when I first viewed it, and wet on the roof, bonnet and boot when I inspected it during delivery. Upon getting it home I discovered substantial numbers of dints in the boot/bonnet/roof, which have subsequently been verified to be hail damage.

Currently in discussions with the dealership. Lets just say the discussions are interesting.

I'm interested to hear from other people that have had similar issues. I am already aware of definately one and possibly two cases where this has happened to others with new Skoda's, one of those incidents involved a new car from the same dealership where I purchased my vehicle.

    cheers

Sorry to hear about having to go through the same experience, I am currently still dealing with the Dealership with an attempt to reach an agreement and also getting advice from Consumer affairs which is the reason I have not provided any feedback or update at current time.

I will definitely update my post in the future so anyone encountering the same issue possibly learns from my mistakes.

Was the car sold to you as new or used (Ex-Demo) and what year?
How much KM was on the odometer and is it filled in the contract?
Did it come with the full 3 year warranty?

The main reason I am asking the above questions as I was sold a new 2011 MY12 model which consumer affairs say should not have been described as a new car any physical “cosmetic” damage to the car that is not registered with Vicroads or reported on the VIN report may be considered as normal new car damage and the dealer can simply repair it, As long as it’s only cosmetic.

Pay for a Vin Report and check the full details with what is on the contract, In my case the Vin report indicated the car is an Ex-Demo which is one of the issues still under review with both Skoda and Glass.

If the Car is new and you are the first owner. Did you get the full 3 years Manufacture Warranty? If not Why ?

Please, Contact Skoda main office and give them the information, use me as another example. They cannot help you very much as it’s not a manufacture fault but they do want to be aware of the issue for internal purposes and will provide you with the Dealer Principal Contact details.

Call consumer affairs and seek advice, keep in mind that they are more towards coming to an agreement with the dealership (maybe some compensation e.g. all repairs and extra warranty etc. ) especially if the car is an older model.

Read advice provided to me in my post regarding escalation – If you want you can pay and have the car fully inspected to peruse legally with VCAT as only a court order can demand a car replacement.

If it is the same dealership which I presume it is I hope SKODA takes the head out of ……. And do something, but legally they have nothing to do with dealership.

I will update my post when I can disclose more information without affecting the process, BUT I still hope to reach a reasonable agreement and leave with a good relationship with the dealership – going head to head does not usually end up well.

FYI Do not expect any response to emails they only respond to phone calls… Send an email (do not involve emotions) request a response within 7 working days following with a phone call confirming they have received it. You can find email templates on Consumer affairs web site.

I write down every conversion I have with the dealership and try and video record every time I meet them.

        Good luck
