Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Prospective Passat Owner

Hi, I was advised to post here after posting on Whirlpool. This seems a great forum with mainly Volkswagen owners.

My wife and I have owned 2x Mazda 6's for the past 11 years and have found them excellent. Actually, with our current one (8 years old) we have had absolutely no problems - just routine servicing. Because of that track record (and it is a great car to drive), we recently went to purchase a new Mazda 6 but have decided not to proceed further because it is now a significantly larger car (just a fraction smaller than a Commodore) to cater for the American market.

So we have been looking around and have narrowed it down to the Passat 118 TSI MY13.5. We took it for a test drive and found it a very enjoyable experience!

    (Ignoring the spammer - lol)

You may also want to look at the Skoda Octavia - hatch and wagon options
The wagon is physically a tad smaller than the old Mazda 6 but still has plenty of internal space
(Skoda is owned by VW and uses VW mechanicals and electronics - same technology)
2012.1 Skoda Octavia VRS DSG Wagon - Carbonio cold air intake and pipe - HPA Motorsports BBK 355mm rotors 6 pot calipers
APR Stage II ECU - APR 3" exhaust down pipe & high flow catalyst
APR/HP Roll bars - Eibach springs and Bilstien shocks
Supaloy lower control arms - Enkei 18*8 Wheels

Why not a Jetta, more compact than a Passat, much the same size as your irigional Mazda 6 ?

Look at the Accord Euro as well, fantastic reputation for its finish and build quality.
