Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

My transporter makes all the appropriate noises going thru the starting process. I have had it since NEW, but the last few months it will not start when it has rained (considerably). The bracket that holds the ignition coil is now rusted off & the ignition coil is now floating around, which has happened recently & not presented me with the problem). I haven't had any rain (nor problems recently) but am not looking forward to the next heavy rain. On the occasions it has rained for days on end, the car won't start till the sun is out & "something" has dried out. Can anyone please confirm a) if it's the ignition coil earthing issue, b) is it something else c) does the corroded ignition coil (now corroded mount) part of the problem??
Clearly there appears to be some design fault, & looking at buying a new one because of something that appears quite simple & frustrating doesn't make a lot of sense. I have had the car since new, & this is becoming a bother. Whilst I garage it, it hasn't been a problem (before). To jump in and run into a heavy down pour of rain is an issue as I can't really afford to jump in the back & wait till it DRIES OUT, which is what has happened on a few occasions (which hasn't been a problem, but very soon will become one).
Thanks to all who may contribute, Regards JoeG

Welcome to the forum joeg. I can't help with your problem as mine is a diesel but there are a number of members on here with the petrol 2.5that hopefully can help.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.
