  • QLD First Euro car! Prior Honda decade long owner reporting in

    Sup guys!

Recently acquired an 06 Golf TDi in need of some TLC as a new short term daily driver until I decide to sell it in the near future and get something else.

    A little about me?
I'm Brad. Probably most known for 1 or maybe my last 2 cars - a Honda S2000 and an NSX with the QLD plates "VTEC".

Even before the S2000, I had a Honda Prelude for about 2yrs. Sold it and extensively modded an S2000 ovr a period of 6yrs, 2 S/c kits, 2 motors and about 10 sets of wheels. Sold the S2K about 18 months ago and bought my childhood dream car an NSX. Bought this fully speced out Golf TDi last week as I knew I had a buyer for the NSX. Sold that yesterday after 18 months of ownership.... and now have the Golf TDi and my old daily driver an 03 Mitsubishi Magna wagon, which I have had for about 6yrs or more and never had to spend a penny on, until its started playing up in recent times - hence the Golf! The Golf that needs some TLC... and thats why I am here!

I've found an IDENTICAL car being wrecked so all my parts I need are relatively nearby and easily accessible. Its currently unregistered as the owner felt it wouldn't pass a RWC and simply couldn't be bothered even trying! I'm of the opinion ot WOULD pass a RWC and intend to try this Friday.

Anyway thats my spiel, and hopefully I can catch up one day in my hectic work schedule to a QLD Euro meet.

    -B

    Welcome to the forums Brad.
Have seen the NSX around at the downshift meets.

Hope you can find what you need for the TDi.
There is a wealth of knowledge and a lot of friendly people on the forums who are happy to help.

The problem with the Golf is the DSG box.. Shudders on take off. It could be just the bands, but rather than risk it I have simply bought another 06 Mk5 TDi DSG box with a greater less number of KM's for $2K. Not sure if that was a good price or not?? But what's done is done, just have to get around to fitting it up probably the week after next.

Ahh the NSX.. Always looked a bit so-so at meets. I spent $430 on a full detail, $400 on a front lip repair & respray, and a few hundred bucks on various other things to bring it up to scratch for the potential buyer a few days prior.

Seriously, it looked like new. I would of rated it about 9.2/10 (minus points for slow elec windows (new regulators are $600ea) and dirty seat belts (also $600ea) but that was about it hey, it looked superb!

Here is it is the afternoon before I sold it.

I stripped it entirely to stock... with the exception of the side skirts, rear skirts and the later model front headlights / rear tail lights. It went to Sydney, he then moved to Adelaide and the car hasn't been seen since.

There was SOOOO much love put into that car. And it repaid me with a busted knee. That car has ruined my knee for life. I still to this day get aching pains in my right knee from when the car nearly rolled on top of me during the engine swap (I popped my right knee cap about about 90 degrees around circularly so the lower half of my leg from the knee down was about a 30 degree angle in the opposite direction. It was the 2nd most painful feeling I have ever felt..... the first was when it finally rolled and popped back into place about 30 minutes later - after lying helplessly in the backyard with no one to hear your tormented shouts for help whilst cursing at Christ for being an *******)... Oh then my housemate came outside 2 mins later after she finally got out of the shower to do her laundry... Walking down the back steps only to find me dragging myself towards the steps... FUN DAY!

I look back at that car as a learning curve. An expensive learning curve. Should of been happy with 13 pound and 420whp.... and no bucket seats (as this is what weakened my knees in the first place - being 6"2 and getting in and out of an S2000 with a CF hardtop and Mugen bucket seats). But... I felt I wanted to push the envelope. It was all downhill after that.... polished engine bay, built motor, 76,000RPM Novi 1500 spinning 21,000RPM past its recommended settings, custom Reichard Racing pulleys (fantasic pulleys by the way highly recommend to anyone!) making 26psi and nothing but heat all the way in VTEC from 3900rpm to 9500rpm and only making like 380whp or something. Was gutting. It was the day I decided to quit.. Jumped online found an NSX and bought it a few days later... Stripped the car after the Fast Fours cover shoot and the parts alone pretty much paid for the NSX...

So when I got that car I promised myself I'd behave.. just a simple lip kit, some wheels and a suspension drop.. But the car never did anything for me. Always felt slow... and certainly wasn't fun being NA and auto.... Atleast I didn't lose my license 3 times during its ownership... LOL

I always loved the S2000. I remember going to the Aussie launch where they had the one with a clear body so you could see all the yummy under bits.

damn, still looks perfect to me, shame you had to part it all out, a lot easier to get the money back that way however. So whats next? Any new cars on the horizon? Apart from the golf obviously?

I'd kill for an F355 but its outside of my financial reach. So for now I'm just going to sit on my hands and save up some money. Who knows?!

Always had a soft spot for the 355's.
Either way, hopefully you can fix the TDI up and put around in it for a while.

man you have some great taste in modding cars.
loooooooooved the s2k and nsx (seen in a few times at ds).
hope you got what you were after for the nsx and the plates.
both items are well deserving of the asking price.

                              Thanks mate!

Does anyone know where I can source some Mk5 headlights? Mine are fogged up like crazy and I'd like to replace them.
