My VAG story started in Canada back in 2003 when my future wife and I bought a '92 Passat to get us around the various ski fields in the eastern rockies. Come the end of summer we packed up and proceeded to drive the full length of the west coast of the USA down to San Diego, then turned around and drove back up to Calgary. We think the trip was about 12,000km, but the car popped a coolant hose just outside Vancouver which then spewed coolant all over the road speed sensor, so the speedo only worked intermittently, except on the day we sold it in Calgary, when it worked perfectly (score)!!!
Anyway, by the time we got back to Oz, my dad had bought a Mk4 Gti, which he traded for a Mk5 Gti, and then a Mk6 Gti. He also had a 2001 2.8LV6 Passat sedan, which i bought off him in 2004 when he decided he wanted a wagon of the same car, which i then bought off him again when he upgraded to the new model in 2007, which coincided nicely with our purchase of a very fluffy German Shepard puppy.
Come late 2009 i put in an order for an Octavia RS (petrol, DSG, blue), which was built xmas eve and arrived here about 4 months later. Dad liked i so much he went down to the dealer and ended up buying a Superb diesel wagon (he wasn't having much fun with the Passat, dodgy DSG), which he's just traded on a new one under their 0% finance deal. One of the guys we play golf with liked the superb, so he bought one, and somewhere in there my little sister bought a Mk5 2L diesel golf. So yeah, plenty of VAG products flying around my family......
The Octavia is going strong 60,000kms later. The battery died while having it's warranty runout inspection done down at CVWCT last week, so that got replaced under warranty, and i've also had the coolant reservoir replaced under warranty after it kept telling me i had no coolant everytime the ambient temp dropped below 0deg (any ideas why? The dealer had no clue, and only believed me after i left the car there overnight in winter so they could start it from cold in the morning). I've taken it up to Wakefield Park which is heaps of fun (though no good for tyres......), but i have the urge to make it go stronger, so i thought i'd join up to tap into the vast knowledge base and get an idea of peoples experiences with the different tuners!!
