Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hello form Brissy

Hi Guys, another newbie here and new to Brisbane too.
I've had Golfs for over 15 years now and currently have a white Mark 6 2011 Bluemotion with of course the sensible window tints which are essential for Qld. I love the tdi diesel engines and had a Mark 4 1.9 GT tdi in the UK in silver - absolutely loved that car and travelled all over the UK in it.

We're seriously hammering the roads here in Queensland, hence the reason for the Bluemotion which is amazing of course on fuel economy. Whilst I would have preferred to go for something more torquey like a 2.0, the Bluemotion is only a 1.6 but has a surprising bit of poke in it.
I'm enjoying reading this cracking forum and am trying to get across decent garages in the area. Last thing I want to do of course is shell out a small fortune at a VW dealership.
    Cheers.

    Tony

    Welcome to the forums Tony.
I would look for Jmac (Alba European) or Mike webber from Prestige and Performance.
I have used Mike for all my services and he has been great.

Hope we can get you out to some of our events.

Cheers for that, I've been reading the forum for a few days now and meant to join. The missus pranged the front this morning, just dented and cracked the front bumper as she ran into a ute and hit it's tow bar. Yup you're right she drives the bugger and I wash and fix it and get to drive my pride and joy whenever I can. Can you recommend a good body work place or smash repairer in Brissy? I've called Shipstone so far and will take it into them next week. I'm hoping I can get away with a repair rather than a whole new panel. She was stationary, took her foot off the clutch and pranged at low speed and the other car was OK.
Anyway the wife's well sheepish about it which should get me a few beers tonight (at the very least), the last time she was this gutted, she put 2 x full paint tins in the boot of my other Golf, went round a roundabout and 5 minutes later 2 x blokes from the DIY store are shovelling sand into it to mop up gallons of white emulsion which were spilled in the boot. Took me a few days to clean it out, good job it wasn't gloss.
