Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Congratulations on the purchase and welcome to the forums. It is unfortunate that there are things that need to be fixed straight up. What needs to be repaired/replaced if you don't mind me asking?

      Hi ForceFed,
my rns510 cd part doesnt seem to work. I put a disc inside and now it's stuck and has a "CD/DVD Error". Not sure what to do and how to get it out.
i need to replace the 4 tyres, brake pads & disc rotor things and also the CV boot thing is leaking =(

Did you purchase the vehicle privately or from a dealer? If not CV boot is quite a common problem and is quite cheap to fix. My left cv boot is split also. No biggie.

Tyres/pads/rotors on the other hand can be quite expensive to replace. If you are going to buy new rotors and pads, go for ceramic as they do not give you brake dust like ordinary pads. You will have nice clean wheels at the very least and they will last about double the amount of time.

As for the RNS issue maybe someone else can jump in and give you an answer to that.

If you bought this from a dealer, take it back and get THEM to fix everything.

I bought the car privately. Thanks for your help with the brake stuff, I will definitely look into the ceramic type! I was told by the inspector i could wait untill i hit the 120,000km service to replace it (i am at 109,000), so hopefully i can save enough by then.
Did you fix the CV boot yourself? or did you get a mechanic to do it? if so, how much was it roughly?
          Thanks

Oh cool. My boyfriend just took the car to a mechanic he knows and they quoted it for $200, but i was told that the part he is using is just as good as the OEM part. Hopefully all goes well tomorrow when i get it done.

Hey guys I'm her bf. I made an account yesterday and was going to introduce ourselves but I guess she has already done it !
We're from Sydney (Liverpool) hoping to join the VW scene

We are new to European cars and are hoping to find more info on these forums.
We bought the car yesterday for $21500 Aud ( I say we, but really it was only her) I just love the car as well so its OURS

Just a little about the car

                06 Blue Golf R32 MkV (i think)
                109***kms
                APR ECU single program
                RNS510 Satnav
                Mostly stock.

As she has mentioned before there are a few problems we have discovered prior to purchase and a few after, But for that price we just couldnt say no..

Brakes/Rotors need to be replaced soon
                Cv boot leaking
                Tires are gone..
LCA bushings are about to go
                Exhaust rattle
                RNS510 has some cd issues.
Everything else was really good for its age.
I wont ask for help here just yet as I will be browsing through looking for fixes before making threads.

So what do you guys think of the price after the problems we have encountered?
We hope to learn a bit more about these cars as we fell in love straight away. I drive a Nissan 180sx and the R32 just destroys it lol..

We are also hoping to join some cruises as well in the future!

Will upload some pics of it soon

Brakes and tyres will cost you about $1k each, depending on quality etc.

But for that price, considering what needs replacing, I think you got a very good deal!!

                  Enjoy the car.
