Hey Guys,
My names Ferdinand and Ive been lurking on VWWatercooled for quite a while. I shoot for Downshift and have covered a couple of VWWatercooled happy lap sessions in the past.
So for 5 years now Ive owned a 4 door Hennarot BMW E30, which has been amazing and Ive learnt a lot driving the car, it puts a smile on my face. However... as most cars, the older they get, the more problems tend to appear.
I do most of the work on my cars myself and so I havent been able to find enough time for diagnosing and repair all in one weekend. I needed another daily.
What I really needed from a daily, was something that was cheap to run, reliable and great quality, but I didnt want something that was "numb" to drive, as I dont want to hate getting up in the mornings, just because I dont want to drive to work.
After test driving several small hatches (Clio 197, Ralliart Colt and Polo TSI), I stumbled upon the VW Up. Which on paper, fitted the bill perfectly. Small economical engine, low initial cost and VW world renowned build quality. Took it for a test drive on Monday and while you can see where they have cut costs, its in areas that dont comprise the driving feel. The steering isnt numb, the throttle not digital and without feel, and while the ride is VERY soft, this makes the car, I find very enjoyable to drive.
This all coupled together with a great drive-away deal, sold me on the Up.
Will hopefully be covering more events now, so hope to see you all very soon
