Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD Oldie is now a newbie

    Hi Everyone,

Just joined and thought I'd introduce myself

My VW obsession started in the 80's with my first Bus , a 76 2litre Bay window, over the years I owned a 67 camper, and a bright yellow 60 dual cab, that I ended up selling to Steve Muller ( I've always wondered what ever happened to her )

I restored a beautiful 69 factory sunroof beetle and my last VW was a 1990 Water Cooled bus. Then I moved away from cars and ended up driving a Toyota Hilux for many years.

Whilst in Sydney I started a club called the Australian Split Window Kombi Club and we had about 50 members by the time it folded..

I now live on the Gold Coast and needed to get a small car for work , last Friday I bought an 9N 2007/8 GTi Polo from Melbourne and I flew down to drive it back, I arrived back on the coast last night , picked a great weekend to drive up as the storms from the cyclone really hammered us. But it was a great opportunity to get to know my new car.

I now have been rekindle with the VW bug (pardon the pun) and the Polo it amazing, It's a great car for cruising and all round city driving, On the highway it had great power to overtake when needed and cruised nicely.

It's stock standard and I know I won't be able to leave it that way I see an old mate who I haven't seen for many years - Guy Harding - is still heavily into the VW scene, I'm going to be heading up to Brissy and catching up with him, I think he'll be able to get a little more out of this great car

That's enough of my gas bagging, I'm very excited to back in a VW after so many years. I look forward to chatting and participating in this forum

    All the best
    Mark "Watto" Watson

Welcome Mark! That's a great VW history you've got there. Congrats on the Polo, and have fun with the modding - I'm sure Guy will give you a hand getting carried away!

You certainly picked a great weekend to drive on the coast mate, glad you and the car are okay, pretty wild out there.

If you want to get the most out of the 9n3 GTI, have a look at h100vw's and VWindahouse's red Polo's and Troy's black polo.
They are going to be the ones to watch.

Thanks for the headsup, I'll check them out.
I'm not looking to build a track car, I want to concentrate on getting a nice street performance car, a good reliable daily driver that I can use to turn on the power when needed, yet still not need major upgrades, I'll be reading up extensively to see what's the best options.

            Thanks again

Well hopefully we can get you along to one of our laps sessions so you can see Gav's and Anthony's in action as they are all street useable cars but still go like the clappers.
