  • WA G'day to all at VWwatercooled!

    Hi all,

Name's Andy, and I'm from sunny WA. I've been looking at buying a VW GTI in some form for the last couple of months however still no purchase, however after much deliberation over how much I want to spend, what my requirements are in a new car etc I've fallen in love with the MKV GTI Pirelli. (I note: If a car dealer reading this is selling a Pirelli - I don't want one that badly).

Unfortunatley there's not any Pirelli's for sale in WA so I'm obviusly going to buy one from the East Coast - any tips here would be good. If I was importing a vehicle from Japan I'd be set as I've done it a couple of times before - but buying from East Coast I have no idea, apart from knowing the cost of transport.

I've not had a VW in the past either but have read lots over the last few weeks.

Previous cars have been Swift GTi, R32 Skyline and a vry nice Toyota Aristo (GS300) which got solen. Currently my daily driver is a 2010 Scott S20 ?

Anyway looking forward to getting a Pirelli over the next couple of months. Will keep all posted

******* Update to above is that I've now taken possession of my Black MKV Pirelli ************ Thanks Mike for looking after yours so well up until now, and thanks also for rarely driving it

    More photos will follow

    Cheers

          Welcome aboard Andy.

buying ex east shouldnt be an issue if you do your homework, I bought an S3 from queensland and all went very smoothly.

In fact if the car you are seeking is a bit rare, then ex WA is not necessarily a good idea and ex-east should be your default search

            Hey guys,

            Cheers for the welcome.

Gareth, yes I reckon your right there - cost wise too I assume I'm going to come out on top or at least square. Out of interest did you buy your S3 from a dealer or was it private. The dealer I spoke to in VIC who has one I'm keen on said they send the car over De-registered and I just take it and register it once in WA at an inspection centre. Does this sound right to you?

            Thanks again

yep...that's the way they do it.

You'll need permits to move the vehicle from transport yard to home, then home to DPI office....or, if transport yard is in Welshpool ...WIN WIN. Book in at DPI Welshpool.

                G'day to all at VWwatercooled!

Thanks Steve, will try for a transport company based in Welshpool or Kewdale then in that case. All pretty simple really cheers

I bought mine privately, but the guy was an ozaudi forum member so I felt better about that.

Get the dealer to send it over registered, then you return the plates to vicroads, and you get the refund. the dealer is being kind here because they get to pocket the cash!

When you get yours registered here, dont go to welshpool, go to Kelmscott. At Kelmscott, you can book an appointment and dont have to sit in a 3 hour queue like at welshpool.

When I got mine, I drove around on SA plates for a couple of months (as you might remember!) Then re-registered here when they were due. The Stamp duty in SA was cheaper than bringing it here unregistered and paying WA duty. Might have been a bit dodge but it was a private sale. Hit me up for a beer sometime!

haha Geoff, the only dodge is for that 3 months you had no 3rd party insurance.

thats why WA Main roads make you license straight away, and even get temporary permits to move it around to get in inspected etc
