Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • SA Alpine integration

    Hi,
I've finally taken delivery of our new Tiguan and we all love it. Even taken it fishing on its first holiday.
Anyway I had a alpine sat nav installed by the local car installer with a wiring harness to intergrate the MFD and steering wheel controls. Unfortunately the controls are not responding and "Alpine Off" comes up on the MFD" display. Is there something that needs to be turned on? The installer is not very good with Eorupean cars I found out during the install witch has made me a little nervous and the radio reception can be a little fuzzy with reception.
Has any one got any ideas on some solutions please......

Alpine and integration shouldn't be used in the same sentence.

If you think your installer is the problem, try someone else. Since you're in Adelaide, speak to Transporter on this forum, he should be able to sort you or if there is a solution to your problem.

Reception is a common issue with most aftermarket units in VWs. Which alpine do you have? I'm fairly sure it would have a DIN antenna so the best you can do is buy a diversity FAKRA (which is your OEM antenna connection) to DIN antenna. They are floating around eBay for about $20.

Next time, don't let the dealer install you anything other than OEM. Actually, don't let the dealer install you anything if it didn't ship with the vehicle, unless you feel like being ripped off in excess of $1k.
