  • Finally registered!

    Hi everyone,

I realised tonight how much I get linked to this forum when searching google for various Golf related things. Its such an amazing resource I realised it was time to register and hopefully give something back.

I currently own a Golf 2011 77TSI which I love. However I'm currently looking to upgrade to a GTD or GTI in the next few weeks. Needless to say the TSI has sold the brand so well I'm not even looking at other manufacturers.

So thanks for all the inadvertent advice and sorry for the lurking in the past. Hopefully I'll be able to start contributing something!

    Cheers,
    Tim

Welcome to the forum, mate. I've driven both the GTI and GTD, depends on what you want really. GTD will still be a performance improvement over your 77TSI but the GTI is another league

Welcome aboard from me too. I have a GTD, my first diesel that I have owned and my first VW as well. Whether you go GTI or GTD they are both awesome cars. I have had no issues with my GTD in the 15 months I have owned it apart from wanting to drive it all the time! I tend to thrash it quite a bit around town and the economy is very good indeed and on long trips it is frugal while still punting along at highway speeds (5.6 l/100km real figures typical). If fuel costs are of interest to you my GTD is costing 9.6cents per kilometre average after 52570 km. It's very hard not to love the sound and performance of a GTI though. Good luck with whatever you upgrade to and happy motoring.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! The info is really useful!

I test drove the GTI today and you're right, the sound was almost enough to make me throw down my wallet immediately. I'm having a look at a 2nd hand GTD tomorrow (first registered Feb 2011).

$33,000 - 1 owner. 31,000kms, really well optioned with Nav, Park assist & tinting. The closest I can seem to get with a GTI is around the $34-35k mark for the same year but no options and similar mileage, or $33k with about 60,000kms, no options.

The GTD seems like a fairly reasonable deal - its smack bang in the middle of the red book value (excluding the extras which is a bit of a bonus).

Anyone have any thoughts on the GTD deal? A part of me wants to hang out for a cheapish GTI to come up, but I love the economy of the diesel (my job is all on the road).
