Hello everybody,
This post should start with............What have I just done.
To clarify that statement I need to give a little background. This is not the first car forum I've joined (nor the second....or third.....or, well you get the point). But how this differs is all the other sites were for sporty, racy adrenaline pumping fun. I found this forum whilst looking for reviews on a *breathe* Skoda Superb Wagon. I never in my wildest dreams / nightmares thought I would be considering buying a wagon (let alone a Skoda). But as the name suggests necessity has forced my hand.
I didn't start looking at wagons it just sort of..well..happened. I originally went in looking at WRX's, Focus ST's and Golf GTI's, which inevitably led me to look at the Golf R. Perfect I thought 4 doors and fun galore and things were going swimmingly until I opened the boot........bugger. It was at this point that the sales guy said never mind here look at this Golf wagon....it's bigger and fuel efficient (at this point I stopped listening).
So back to the drawing board and during discussions the more sensible half of this relationship highlights the need for an SUV or wagon. Now we already have an SUV and I didn't want a bar of that for my car so I start looking at wagons
But will I go down willingly, nay. So I looked for cars which were hiding a raging beast under their docile shell. Well at least something which had a pulse. So I had it (on paper at least) down to a 3 series, A4, Liberty GT and maybe I'd look at a Passat. But on the day the thoughts as listed earlier were too slow, silly CVT gearbox, too generic (but was promising) and finally what is with those horrible looking seats.
Now a very good mate suggested I look at the Skoda RS as he quite liked them. Went to a yard and there was a nice white example. I sat, and though nice enough but I'm not sure and what's that next to it? Sales guy says that's its big brother the Superb. Now the inside immediately had me interested, it was a really nice place to be. And at this point he says it’s the old R36 engine and running gear detuned a little....take it for a spin.
Nuff said.
Now I find myself starting an account on a VW forum and waiting for the paperwork to be finalised on a family wagon *sigh*. And the fact that she doesn't know there is a frugal diesel we'll just keep to ourselves shall we.
Cheers
