Hi,
I have bought my 3rd VW - starting with the 2007 Passat wagon, then a 2010 R36 and 2010 Multivan (for my parents).
I bought them from Barloworld Bayside (Moorabbin) - and have been happy with my purchase of the R36. The Multivan has caused some major issues and has started to put me off VWs. It also doesn't help the fact that Barloworld Bayside haven't been the most helpful in diagnosing the problem.
At as early as 890kms, we found that the Multivan had some unusual vibration from the front left wheel, and that it was pulling to the left - to which Barloworld Bayside stated that the wheel alignment was out of spec and carried out a wheel alignment.
At 3241kms, the Multivan was taken back to Barloworld Bayside for further analysis on the vibration - to which they couldn't find a fault - so we persevered.
Then at 14928kms (15K service) - I complained about the same issues (vibration and pulling to the left). To which they found that the front right tyre was wearing out and that it required another wheel alignment - to which they suggested that the vehicle will require a wheel alignment every 6 months (which I find unreasonable). Upon receiving the vehicle back from service, they'd left the front right tyre on (even though they stated it was wearing out) - to which I complained that it could cause a safety issue, and they subsequently swapped it with the spare. At this stage I raised the issue of the tyre with VW Australia - to which they responded that the tyre spec was correct for that model.
Then at 16783kms, I had a major concern with the vehicle regarding the pulling to the left and a rattle from the engine bay. They checked the pulling to the left issue and found no problem but the rattling was caused by the diff securing bolt had sheared off - which was replaced under warranty.
Then most recently (at 23306kms) the rear numberplate light housing had come adrift - and upon taking it to the dealership we bumped into the salesman that sold us the vehicle. He agreed that the only way the rear numberplate light could come adrift is from bad vibration. And upon servicing, the service consultant didn't lodge a work order against the repair until it was insisted by us - to which he reluctantly composed.
At this stage, we cornered the service consultant regarding the issues we've been having with the Multivan. He eventually verbally admitted that there were known problems with the alignment of the Multivan and that there were several issues raised with VW Australia. Time after time, I'd asked the service consultant on whether there was any known issues with the alignment - and I was assured by them that there weren't any.
I am at a stage where I will consider taking it to consumer affairs and have my lawyer involved. However, I have given VW Australia an opportunity to rectify the issue - to which they have suggested that I take it to another dealership for a 2nd opinion. I was considering VW South Yarra, but having read some comments on some forums and sites, I'm not confident that they will act in my best interest. I am not expecting the dealership to immediately rectify the issue, but I would expect them to act in the best on my behalf.
So, I would like to put it out there to the forum members on any recommended dealership to have my Multivan inspected - and subsequently my R36's 45K service.
On a similar note, I had my R36 serviced at 15K and complained about the centre console creaking while going over speed humps. Barloworld Bayside also acknowledged the issue and commented that it was a characteristic of the vehicle (WTF?).
Cheers,
Heartmuscle.
