Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Recently Rebuilt Golf 118 TSI

Hi all I am the proud owner of a 2009 Gold 118 TSI with sportpack. Recently rebuilt courtesy of VW Australia (outside of warranty) due to a self destructing engine. It dropped a piston and lost compression.

Aside from the hassles of being off the road for around 3-4 weeks I still love my Golf.

    Welcome to the forums mate!

Sorry to hear about the engine troubles... the old compression problem is a nasty one. Still, with the new engine you should be fine - the 24S4 update means new engines are much more reliable.

Did VW replace your engine outside of warranty free of charge, as a sign of good faith?

Welcome mate. Yes they can sometimes be troublesome but if you look around nothing comes close for performance/fuel/interior quality/price.

Welcome to the forum and I know how you felt with your 118tsi dramas. 2L turbo can help that...

          Thanks for the welcome Adam
Yes they replaced it outside warranty (shock horror I know but I was very pleased) as a measure of good faith. But so they should with only 25,000kms on the clock and only a few months outside warranty. I must say I was really puckering up for bad news before they told me it was warranty.

And it's dead again.... Currently waiting on tow truck engine lights and epc lights on, smoke, clunks and will not turn over.
was fixed at Essendon VW. pretty average service I must say. Sales team are fantastic russel the sales manager even gave me a loan car while mine was being fixed. Shame the service side lets them down.

Currently being stripped again. They have told me the diagnosis at present is timing issues. Not very telling is it.
So again no idea how long it will be off the road as yet. I am sure they have a better idea of the issues than letting on and are waiting on some direction from VW Australia. Time will tell.

The MK7 is looking very good right about now. I cant wait until its available. Lets just hope after mine gets back on the road it can last that long

Side note: The service manager at Essendon has just left , customer service didnt seem to be part of his skill set.
