  • NSW Hello looking at buying a polo gti

    Hey everyone

Well a little about me I've been playing around with cars for years and I own a 400hp Mazda s4 rx7 street/show car that feels like it will never be finished lol. I sold my daily corolla a few months back and been looking for something different to play that will also make a nice daily and the polo gti's have caught my eye

Looking at a 06 model Gti as there are a few in my area and also noticed it for sale on this site so thought I might as well join up and learn as much as I can about these cars and see what I'm in for

Not sure I really wanna modify a polo kinda looking for something standard and reliable but we will see how long i last till I start pulling it apart hahaha

    Cheers
    Michael

    Welcome to the forum mate.

    I got a Polo recently http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...%3B-79012.html

You'd have to at least get a flash tune for it. I have run mine with std and tuned ECUs in and the std one is terrible. For the cost it would be silly not to. http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...ing-75844.html

That's where the slippery slope starts, the intake temps can't be controlled by the weedy sidemount. Then there's a downpipe and another flash...........

I think the standard brakes are plenty strong enough for the road. The LCA bushes are shocking and should be replaced with either the SEAT ones or Superpro. The bottom engine steady is the same plasticine design and needs fixing too.

Then as the miles rack up the shocks get sloppy. So you are into a kit, coilovers start a bit over $500 and you would never get new VW ones for that.

I have an S3 and there's some quick Polos that can stay ahead of me at the track. Mostly down to my brakes needing some improvement.

Look forward to seeing how you go.

    Cheers

Thanks mate well the one im looking at has less than 60k on it and its completely standard apart from a apr flash tune. I don't think I really need over 200hp for a daily just looking for something neat if anything ill upgrade the sound system cos that's easy for me I do systems as a side job

And just over $500 for coilovers? I paid over triple that for the rx7 ones haha

My mates is bringing his mate that is a mechanic for Volkswagen to look at the car cos i don't know much about them hence why I joined up on this forum but is there anything major I need 2 look out of if the mechanic can't come?

      Cheers

Apart from the usual brakes, pink coolant, tyres, black oil filter. There's the crunchy second gear syncros. Check the service history closely.

welcome to the forum mate, just make sure timing belt has been done on time .. other than that they are very well made cars , you could get it checked by a mechanic to scan for faults to be safe.

              best of luck

agreed. that mileage isnt a concern if its been well looked after.

If it's had the timing belt and water pump done at 105K that'd save you spending around $1000 in service costs - high mileage in what's considered a bulletproof engine that's been in production for nearly 15 years is nothing to worry about.

He said the timing belt was done at 70k so does than mean I have 2 change it again now cos its hit over 105k?

I'm not sure what the intervals are after the first one was done - If it's the same as the original it'd be 2014 or 175k but you'd want someone to confirm that. Still that's a big expense avoided, personally my car's a 2006 with 130K on it - absolutely zero problems and I'm confident it could go a lot further before it had any.
