Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hi

Thought I would finally become a member after reading some great information in the forums.
I am interested in finding out more on the Golf R and GTI and if thes would be suitable vehicle for travelling 730 kms in a day ?? Cheers

Either would be a nicer place to spend 8 hours than in a Camry. How often are you going to make that trip? I drove my 2000 S3 from Adelaide to Brisbane in 2 days, that's 2200km. I could still walk and only stopped when I needed petrol.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Thanks for the reply, My partner and I travel north to Cairns once a month and return to see my son for a few days.
Court orders and stuff , was doing it fortnightly. At present driving a 1994 Corolla auto.

Hoping to upgrade to a MK6 GTI or R. Bit worried about ride quality with 18" inch wheels on the GTI or R. I test drove the R and felt somewhat disappointed when you step on the gas it take a bit to get moving otherwise it's an awesome car.Wish we had Autobahn in Oz.

Just tossing up between a 2010 GTI or spring for new MY13 GTI.

      Cheers
