hi all, hope you are well.

i'm new to the forum, hopefully you guys can shed some light on which VW to purchase.

I'm thinking of the below, what do you think? i would like a nice neat sleeper....

• Golf GTi - 7/10 they are everywhere
• Golf R - 6/10 ???
• Scirrico - 4/10 too fancy
• R36 - 8/10 just nice

Probably leaning towards the R36......

The R36 is a whole other beast compared to the GTI. The GTI is very easy to MOD, same as the R when you're on a budget. If you want something that you can keep stock, that goes like the clappers and sound great, you cannot pass up the R36 or the R32.

I completed the first stage on an audi a4 and it made a whole world of difference plus for somehow it made the car a little more economical. Well it felt like i was getting more out of a tank.....

Damn, i like the size of the R32 as it is smallish with a spanking power plant but i also like the size of R36 because it is has a little more room and practical......

i cannot decide....

Go with GIAC. Only $999 and you get the exact same thing barring the security stuff which not a lot of people use. If you're interested in that, hit up Dub Addiction at 820 Princes HWY just off of Springvale Rd. Tim's a great guy and will definitely steer you in the right direction.

It definitely makes the car more economic because of the Torque it gives. More Torque makes it easier to get up hills at higher gears thus reducing the strain on the engine causing it to work harder.

The GTI with a Tune will spank an .:R32 due to the weight difference, but it may get off the line quicker due to the Haldex. Grab a Downpipe and an Intake and you'll be leaving R's behind.

Yes, APR Stage 1 here, bring 0-100kph time from 8.0 seconds to 6.5 (to quote you a "world of difference"). The extra torque means more power at low revs = better fuel economy (if you can resist driving like a hoon everywhere). Essentially I drive a normal looking hatch back with a tiny 1.4L engine that can out perform 90% (if not more) of cars I come across.

I use the security lockout when dropping the car off at the dealer.

Don't buy either. The 118TSI has major gearbox issues and VW even admitted to the GT being a failed attempt at a GTI sibling.

Not sure if you're trolling there, but the GTI is already Turbocharged. You don't need to Supercharge it.

It really depends on DSG Reliability. You may get a lemon like I did or you may get a spectacular one. I prefer DSG in the GTI because the Manual is really nothing special. If I wanted a Manual that goes like the clappers I would've gotten an RS250.

Not everyone has had DSG issues. Some have had problems with the 7spd DSG with the MY10-11 cars but no reports of problems with newer cars and mine's been perfect since the free replacement. Similar-ish to the MK5 GT but I'm sure the tech has been updated and the MK6 interior is such a nice place to be.

+ he could get a manual 118TSI since no problems at all with those. A Mk6 GTI costs roughly 10g more than the 118TSI, but if you spend $1000 on Stage 1 you'll be going just as fast as the stock GTI, using less petrol, not attracting attention, slightly more comfortable with 16" rims, no turbo lag, etc. It's not that crazy an option. The GTI has the benefit of XDL (slightly faster cornering in twisties, it's just software that brakes the inside wheels), and a few other visual improvements.
