Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hello from the UK

    Hi everyone.

I've just joined the forum to find out more information about the Volkwagn scene in Australia.
My wife has been offered a job in Sydney and so we are considering moving.

So my name is Gareth, I've been driving and modifying VW's since I past my test 14years ago.

I currently own a 1990 Mk2 GTI which I have converted to a TDI with a 2006 PD TDI engine.
A 1969 Karmann Ghia, and a Genuine Mk2 Golf G60 Syncro 3dr this is a restoration project, and is currently a shell.

I'll mostly be reading around on the forum, and maybe asking a few questions.

      Hey Gareth,

Welcome to the VW Watercooled Forum.

Random question but did you use to have a 9n polo Diesel? If you did I followed some of your build threads as I was thinking of doing the shallow sump mod on my fabia. If not, ignore that!!!!!

Anyways, ive recently moved to Sydney (Arrived Feb 2012) and found the VW scene to alot smaller than in the UK. I guess this is due to the lower population and greater distances between everyone.

There are a few good meets and shows over the year and a pretty good VW Scene in Melbourne from what ive read/heard. It be great to meet up if you decide to move to Sydney.

        Hi Gareth, Welcome.

Unfortunately, the OZ VW scene is nothing compared to the UK scene, both in terms of quality and quanitity.

We still do manage to have a fair few meets/shows, how ever I'd imagine not nearly as many compared to the UK. There just isn't a big modified VW following, plenty of modified car people going around though, most into classic muscle (aussie and US) or the imports/japs.

Nice dubs, love the mk 2 with the tdi swap, too cool.

Hi gareth and welcome to the fourm,

I moved from bedfordshire, U.K to melbourne 2 years ago now and yes the V.A.G scene is very small in comparison, it is so good to see though the despite the expensive prices of european cars over here (in comparison to uk) the aussies do a very good job of it, love your cars too
