Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW 2012 VW Polo 77TSI DSG STALLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hey everybody,

    New to the site someone suggested it to me yesterday so thought I'd give it go.

    I bought a VW Australia Demonstrator 2012 MY12.5 VW Polo 77TSI DSG with Sports Pack and Comfort Pack from Chatswood Classic. Been great but I've had issuses with it......

    19th Nov Lost power but still drove
    20th Nov Lost power but still drove
    21st Nov Stalled in the morning, I restarted and drove fine then on the way home it stalled I restarted and it drove fine
    23rd Nov Stalled in the morning, I restarted and it stalled again EPC light came on

    Spoke to VW Assist, was told if the car was stalling to get in to be looked at so I dropped in to Barloworld in the morning and got it back later in the afternoon I was told that the acutator something was replaced???

    1st Novemeber my car shuddered then stalled, I restarted and drove off and stalled, epc light came on restarted and drove again got around the corner stalled again engine light comes on restarted drove it back to Barloworld to get them to have a look at it again but can't till the 21st.

    I'm putting my feelers out there to see if anyone else has had this problem before and wether it's been resolved or wether I'm going to go through the pain and suffering of owning a lemon for the next five years? Would love to hear peoples thoughts.

    Oh crap. I thought the 77TSI had too low torque figures to bug the 7 speeder.

    I've got a 77TSI Golf in Jul 2011 but its been working fine till now

      The actuator thingy you talk about is the wastegate actuator on the turbo that is part of a service campaign. If the car is stalling it could be a dodgy mechatronics unit that could be incorrectly actuating the gears and or clutches which would cause the shuddering.

        Hi guys,

        Thanks for your replies, I appreciate it.

        Just picked my car up, they did a software update according to the invoice so fingers crossed that's the last of my worries!

        Gav's - The invoice said they replaced the 'adapted pressure actuator' what ever that is?

          I came out of an Mazda6 MPS (I know a big change) but I don't do much drivving but I reckon it fangs for a small car and it handles really nicely. My Polo has the Sport and Comfort Upgrades so it looks cocked and has all the features I wanted and also in the price range...

            Hey guys,

            This car is doing my head in! I got it back from service the other day driving like a dream! Last night it surged like it was running out of fuel, didn't stall but drove like the turbo wasn't working. Then again this morning surged didn't stall but drove like the turbo wasn't working again. Can someone PLEASE!!!!! shed some light on anything similar that has happened to them, I love the car when it's running properly but this is just getting annoying.

              I have a DSG in my Octavia Skoda RS TDI.

              It occasionally stalls, usually at idle, when going from Reverse to Drive, and normally if I am also turning the wheel. It's jus the clutch is not quite right. As it is self-adjusting it applies the clutch when the engine revs are low or you're stopped. It takes up again when you start off. Simple. If the adjustment isn't quite right, then it may stall.

              One of the key attributes to the DSG system is the idle control. The computer is supposed to sense all the above and make adjustments to the motor to ensure it doesn't stall. It also controls the clutch to a certain point. So as all these things need to work in unisen, I suspect that there is a small manual adjustment needed and it will more than likely be a software update for the computer (just as mine car had).                 Well it's been back again......They have diagnosed the fault being the turbo! Which would make sence for the surging and the splutering not sure about the stalling though? Rockdale is replacing the turbo while I'm overseas so fingers crossed that'll be it!
