    Hey guys,

I've been reading some of these forums for a while and finally decided to register.

I bought a MkV 2006 Jetta FSi earlier this year. I was hoping to get a GTI for the handling and fun factor, but I came across a great bargain on a Jetta, and as it has the same engine and DSG gearbox as the GTI, plus ridiculous amounts of practicality (the boot really does hold 3 dead bodies!) and I am glad I did. For such an unassuming looking car, you can have a lot of fun, and it has great cabin ambiance (leather seats and all) for day to day travel.

I have already travelled to Melbourne, and to Adelaide (Adelaide hills are great for enthusiastic driving), and it is a capable touring car. I definitely appreciated the immediate power delivery during over taking at speed, but I wish it was a little bit more frugal in sixth gear (I think a seventh gear for cruising around the 120km/hr mark is needed). Otherwise, only good things to say about the DSG box.

First car? Sadly, I drove my mum's Volvo 240 for some time before she got an old 928S, which for a young guy was soooo cool to drive. But parts cost you an arm and a leg so that was short lived. Still I have great memories!

Aspirational car? The new Golf R is so good at so many things, but the most likely next step up will be a lightly used R36 passat 4wd. Probably the sedan, but the wagon is tempting - you can have your performance and lifestyle car in one.

The more immediate plan now is to find a quality ECU tune for my Jetta to get a bit more usable performance and hopefully some fuel savings to boot. If anybody has any experience with this, good or bad, I would be very happy to know.

I have seen some other Jettas with 18 inch wheels and they look pretty fine, but wondering if the comfort is sacrificed for not much extra handling?

Look forward to reading more of your interesting posts.

    Cheers!
