  • QLD New MkV GTI owner, first post!

    Hi guys,

I have lurked around many a forum for a while now and I've just bought a 2007 Golf GTI MY08 Manual 3 door, so I thought I would introduce myself and have a thread to post a few photos to. I also need to ask a couple questions about tyres as the current ones will need to be replaced ASAP!

The GTI is an ACT car from a deceased estate, to be freighted up to Brisbane next week. I am very excited, as this is my first car to be "performance oriented" and I hope it lives up to my expectations!

    Little about the car:
    2007 Golf GTI MY08 3 door
6sp Manual - wasn't overly keen on buying DSG
53,000kms - being a deceased estate, it has travelled bugger all kms in the last year, so the 60km major service was the first thing that has checked off the to-do list (with no nasty surprises and a pretty good price for a major service - I would recommend the dealership for their help with everything).
    Tan Leather, heated seats, etc.

Now to the tyres, I have been quoted some fairly attractive prices for the 245/45/17 sizing, but would like everyones opinion on quality/price/etc!

One place has Continental CS3's (I have been told these this is the factory fitted tyre) fitted and balanced for $185 per tyre. Another place quoted Toyo Proxes T1 Sport's for $179 per tyre, also fitted and balanced. What are the opinions of both of these options? I am leaning towards the Conti's as they were the factory fitted ones, but all help/critisism/opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Photo's will be posted when I finally receive the car, as well as any updates!

    Nath.

Forgot to mention the 'wish list' mod plans:

    DG Short shifter
    Front lip
    Coilovers
And I would LOVE a set of BBS RS's (inspiration from mk5_tdi's build - I think they are perfect!)

      Welcome to the forums mate.
I haven't had any experiences with Continental's but the CS3's are meant to be pretty good.

Hope we can get you out to some of our events.

Yeah, not sure why he felt the need to post that in my thread but oh well!
I got the Navy Blue/Dark Blue colour, with tan leather. Can't wait to get it! I also have a soft spot for 3 doors.

I've had 245-45-17 DUNLOP SP SPORT 01 on my LS1 V8 Commodore for the past couple of years and they have been a great tyre, excellent grip wet or dry, quiet, and long lasting. But they are about $200 each.

So quick update! I received the GTI yesterday and I'm very happy after one day of ownership! Only downside to all of this is the damage the transport company did to the roof! I have organised some quotes from two local panel shops in the Redlands area, and all costs will be covered by the transport company, but it is so frustrating! Both panel shops said that the dents/scratches to the roof will have to be repaired/painted, however being a 3 door the clear coat will have to go all the way down the quarter panels to the edge of the front (only) doors, and quarter panels windows/windscreen/tailgate will also need to be removed. 5-10 day turnaround, depending on who I talked to.

BUT that it something that I cannot change, so more on the car!

                I LOVE IT!
                - Leather interior turned out to be a brownish/grey colour instead of tan, but I don't mind it.
                - Tyres were replaced with Continental MC5's (not CS3's), so they are more of a cruising tyre rather than sport.
                - Manual gearbox is fantastic. Clutch is so light, compared to the SV6's which is a heavy/touchy bastard of a thing.
                - Steering is so direct and flat through corners (haven't pushed it yet but I have not noticed any body roll)
                - Mid range torque is great as well, makes me want to drive in 2nd and 3rd everywhere! Also huge upgrade from the boat SV6.

Now to attend some Euro meets/ happy laps/ events and go for Nebo and Mt Mee runs! I also think my mother has driven it more than I have - her Merc C220 is stuck at her work with starting/ignition/key not being recognised problems haha.
