    Hi All

So I bought this Golf thing, heard from a lot of sources that these were the bees knees.

Its a Candy White, 5 door, 07 MKV GTI with DSG. Got the full leather interior, projectors, reverse sensors and 70,000kms on the clock. Only got the little 17's, but i love the mesh look so im keeping them forever.

My previous car was an A32 Nissan Maxima which i loved, didnt look the prettiest but was built nicely with a great interior, and so reliable. The only problems I had with it were the ones I caused and i owned it for 7 years. Changed the alternator after i put in a sound system and killed the battery.

Onto the GTI - almost feels like a downgrade in comparison. 90% of the time the Maxima does a better job. But that 10%, hills and twisties, well thats just beautiful.
Day to day driving around however is the most annoying thing in the world. I walk out the house and get depressed as soon as I see the car

6 hours out of the Stealership and the PCV valve went. Great fun showing off the new car while its idling like a truck and hissing like a kettle.

I joined up here so i could search and see if the problems i have are just normal. Im pretty sure nothing in the car works the way its supposed to. And if it is how its supposed to run, then everyone on this forum is crazy

I dont mean to offend, but so far this thing is a Piece of ****. Hopefully some time on here and more money spent will turn my opinion around. Im actualy a nice guy, just hate getting ripped off.

You got a lemon bud, don't be too butthurt. I bought a similar one to yours except in black and no sensors. I knew about VW's though and the dealer obviously didn't think I did.

He ended up having to pay part of the $13000 DSG and Mechatronics replacement for it and I didn't have to pay a cent. If you don't like the car, get rid of it. I fail to see how you get depressed by looking at it. These are beautiful cars and you've just been had by a tricky dealer it seems

There is no way a Nissan outdoes a GTI in day to day driving unless it's a top end one. The DSG is smooth, no loss in power when gearing, interior is good but looks kinda plasticy. Also the turbo noise and the way it handles downshifts is far better.

But hey we all have our own opinions. Why do you get depressed when you see it? How is it worse than the Nissan in DtD driving?

[s]Can't see where you are from my phone but if you're in Melbourne then you're free to come to Dub Addiction on Friday nights and we'll tell you if anything is wrong or if you're just being all melodramatic.[/s]

Since you're in Adelaide, I suggest listing your problems and then we can get the root of why you think the car is not acting as if it should. I believe you probably can't handle the DSG because you're treating it as more of an auto than a manual. It actually have two clutches as opposed to a torque converter, but I'm sure you knew that. It always take drivers new to double clutch gearboxes a little while to get used to it.

Your name is quite silly as well. Coming onto a forum bashing one of their premium cars with a thread like this and making a name like that just makes you come off as a troll. A simple "I have some issues with my car and I figured this community could help me out" sort of thing would've been fine.

    Welcome to the Forum.

      Hi Deadpool

Thanks for the reply, im not trying to be a prick, just having a bit of fun with a bad situation.

I hate buying Lemons, hence the sour taste in my mouth. I hadnt realised that buying a 5 year old car has become lucky dip, lemon or no lemon, step right up. Oh too bad you lost, better luck next time.

      My morning drive
      - Go to the car, squeeze the hell out of the unlock button, doesnt work, get closer to the car, squeeze again, Success!
      - Put the key in the ignition and turn, keep holding the key for 10 seconds until it finally decides it wants to cough and splutter its way to some sort of awakening. Apparently this is normal and something to do with charging the fuel pump - doesnt really scream quality german engineering.
      - car has started and the radio has 2 bursts of nice fuzz from nowhere
      - now starts the uncontrollable idle that shakes my teeth out. Everything in the car is vibrating, the dash, the steering wheel, the centre console.
      - now its warmed up a bit and the idle is more respectable.
      - reverse out the drive and watch the windscreen wiper fall into position - apparently normal
      - put it into drive and crawl down the road making sure not to drive to hard and hurt the not fully warmed up car
      - accidently put the wiper on instead of indicator - idiot!
      - pull out into traffic and prepare for the whiplash attack. Not from the speed but from the 'subtle' gear change.
      - cruise up the road noticing a severe lack of power from my original test drive, no turbo noise, nothing - could be any number of problems.
      - oh **** now i have to brake - prepare for whiplash attack take 2. gently squueze the brake to not upset things too much. Nah didnt work, thud thud, slam slam.
      - Hit the rattling sunglass holder that doesnt actually fit sunglasses in it so it stops rattling
      - put down the window for air conditioning, i dont want to put the poor engine under any more stress. Cop the full force of the outside wind due to straight up and down style of the car - i could get those cool wind deflectors to stop that.
      - repeat for 5 minutes
      - pull into work as car shudders and jumps around, bunny hopping its way into the car park - copping the wierd looks from workmates

Thank God its only 7 minutes to work. Now just another 7 minutes home.

In comparison, the Nissan had none of those problems. Started first time everytime (this car was 13 years old), pulled with plenty of power out into traffic, big storage areas and soft touch interior panels. When i braked, it stopped, it didnt decide to keep bunny hopping along until it made up its mind. Smooth transmission and comfy ride, was never left wanting.

Not trying to pick fights with my name, in fact the opposite, its all a bit of fun. People shouldnt be offended, they didnt make the car only bought it. I spent my money as well, cognitive dissonance and all that.

Im hoping you're right and i just suck at driving. But as more and more things stop feeling 'right' i think the lemon aspect comes back into play

So unforetunately at the moment my car is a POS GTI

Dead remote battery. Should be able to pick one up cheaply. Have you tried your other key?

Na, that's horse ****. Sounds like the battery has gone seeings you key isn't causing the central locking to work either.

Once again, sounds like the battery is busted.

Now that is unnatural. Did you buy this from a Private person, wholesale dealer, or actual Dealer? The first two come with statutory 3 month warranty like mine did and they're definitely up for any charges that come with the fixes. With the third, the dealer is obviously up for it. Get a VCDS scan and it'll show all the error faults and we can get to the bottom of your car not being as awesome as it should.

Yeah, still not normal. Get a VCDS check, any VW dealer will do it for around $50. Small price to pay to see what you're up for.

If you mean they click down, yes, this is compeletely normal and does it on every GTI (possibly every Golf) to reduce wind resistance. So they hid under the bonnet.

Sounds good to me. Are you feeling any jerkyness at all? If you are, it means the Mechatronics is gone. I had the same issue and VWAustralia covered most of the cost but the Wholesale Dealer had to take the rest.

Normal for switching to a European car, happens to everyone.

If you were on a hill, think of the car as a manual, you've gotta ease on it. DSG is easy to get used to once you get going and get a feel for it. If it's really that bad then it's either your DSG or Mechatronics. Big bucks on Warranty claims are ahead of you.

Not the Mechatronics, could possibly be a blown turbo seal or a battery issue.

GTI brakes are very very touchy compared to that of the Altima (uncle owns one) and it can take some getting used to. Still sounds like a Mechatronics/DSG issue so far.

Happens on my car when it's cold too. It's just vibrations from the little clips moving together. Goes away when it gets warmer.

You didn't test this out when you took it for a drive? Come on man, you gotta be happy with the car before you buy it. Wind defelectors are rarely seen on GTI's, but if it's a necessary evil, go for it.

This really sounds like the Mechatronics Unit that sits behind the clutches is gone or the DSG needs servicing and damn quickly.

So far you've described most of my issues when my Mechatronics was gone. Engine issues, bunny hopping clutches, one-touch functions not working car not unlocking or staring caused by the Mechatronics screwing with the battery.

My verdict is that the Mechatronics is blown and is once again causing these issues for you. I am sorry you have to deal with this, coming from a VW background I didn't think it'd happen to me either, but hey, I'm now running around in a MkV GTI with MkVI GTI running gear and DSG thanks to a wholesale dealer who thought I didn't know what I was on about.

Take it to a Dealer in SA or any of the friendly forum members with a VAGCOM unit and hopefully they can clear some things up with the error codes.

Sorry for coming at you with some rather crude stuff. Was having a **** day and you kinda topped it then. That was before I was hit in a parking lot by some incredibly stupid woman and then claimed it was my fault.

          Thanks Deadpool

I should have posted in the 5th Gen section.

Luckily i have 2 months left on my Stat 3 month warranty. Will be booking this in for a look over by an independent VW guy and taking the problem list back to the dealer for fixy fix time. Ive already replaced the battery a couple weeks ago, thought it solved the problem but they slowly built up again.

No worries about the 'crude stuff' if someone came onto my Maxima forum and started trashing the car id tell em to piss off. Dont join to whinge, join to solve.

I just hope you get it fixed. I know how annoying it can be to have something you just bought completely cark itself.

On a happier note, officially welcome to the Forum and I hope everything works out and you become a GTI lover such as myself.

No, it'll be funny if the Dealer says there's nothing wrong because so many of us have been through that time and time again. They tuck their tails and try to pass it off as a regular thing which it's far from.

If they do, I'll gather some evidence for you from my previous encounter with the wholesale dealer that'll most likely come with legal advice as mine originally did.

So i had Miro run over the car, did the whole VAG COM thing

Nothing wrong with it. I just suck at driving i suppose? On our little drive around i was assured that things were fine and thats just the way they are.

Ive got some injector cleaner to run through at my next fill up, that might subdue the surging feel a little, i think ill need to practice in the DSG a bit more.

Doesnt explain the fuzzy radio though. I have found that the fuzz lines up perfectly with the headlights doing their adjusting thing.

oh well, ill put a chip in it and see what fun i can have
