Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD R36 owner from QLD

Gday guys, found this site after trying to find some info regarding bluetooth in my most recent purchase, an R36 Passat

My name is Brad, I'm from QLD, and used to have an interest in cars; but after selling my money pit aka an S15 Spec R GT a few years back I decided to stick with unmodified and "boring" cars, so I bought an FPV Super Pursuit. I actually held onto the S15 for 6 months after I bought the Ford as I was going to work it - but since I never drove it (not even on weekends) I couldn't justify the insurance and rego, let alone pouring money into it.

Fast forward 2 or 3 years, and along comes an offer I couldn't refuse. My mrs told me her brother had an R36 Passat traded in at his car yard, and organised for him to bring it around for me to have a look. She knew I liked the car (tried to talk her into buying one instead of the C250 Merc we ended up with).

Now, the car isn't in immaculate condition, but it was obviously well maintained, so once you look past the few scratches and gutter rash I saw a pretty damn sweet ride. I'm a terrible impulse buyer, and I liked what I saw, so I bought it

Now, I wouldn't know where to begin with VW's, but I do know 2 things. 1, the exhaust note needs to be unleashed. This won't be addressed soon but it will be addressed. 2, I don't have bluetooth connectivity . It seems like such a feature packed car, that bluetooth/phone connectivity should have been a standard feature. I've seen aftermarket kits available, but I have to do a lot more research into what's what and who in the south Brisbane area can do the install (I'm refusing to do any work on the car myself - I did too much on the S15 and it all but killed my interest in cars when it turned into a chore). Then... new rims I guess.

    Welcome to the forums mate.
The R36 is a pretty awesome ride.
The exhaust note can be helped easily.

Jmac may be able to assist you with the blutooth kit.

Hope we can get you out to some of our events (especially happy laps)

Hi Brad - welcome to the forum. I have an R36 as well and completely agree - the exhaust note needs to be unleashed. Did you get a wagon or sedan - what colour? Look forward to seeing the car evolve.
