Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Congrats on finally joining up and best of luck with the buy.

Is it MkV or MkVI? Also, DSG or Manual?

Looking at a 2007 Silver GTI Manual with leather- Cannot get the owner to budge on price though! HAd been looking for a wrx, but took the golf for a drive the other day and was great, is local too, which makes things easier. Definately a fan.

Depends on the extras TBH. Mine came with Leather and Sunroof, but there was issues with it and it was a DSG. I managed $17,990. For the Manual and with no extras I definitely wouldn't be doing anything above $27,000. Depending on the extras you'd be up for more.

If you don't mind answering, how much are they asking?

Woohoo - about to pay deposit. Insurance value on all quotes I have checked is about 26k, its only done 45ks and I am getting it for a few K less than that.... so I think I have done well needs 2 new tyres in perhaps 6 months, but will look out for some 18inch detroits in that time

$45K with Leather only seems a bit extreme. That's Leather, Sunroof, and Detroits territory.

You've done well none the less.

Cheers, Deposit paid! Had a better look at the car today, in pretty good condition a few marks here and there and a scratch I knew about to get fixed. Leather probably needs some conditioning in a few spots but overall, vgc. Had a fault code at the recent service for a door lock module or something, but did not need addressing at the minute. Also, its july 2007 - does that mean its still MY07 or MY08..? ( i was doing insurance quotes and one you can do it my rego number and it automatically chose MY08 for me)
