Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Looking for a polo gti

    Hey everyone,
ive been lurking on here for ages, im looking at buying an 9n gti, my mum currently has one and i love it!
so far i have worked out that i should be looking for the following problems:
    . the dog bone mount
    . control arm bushes
. loosening bolts on the turbo
so i know that im probably going to get told to use the search function but i have been looking and searching for weeks.
i really want one and my questions are.
is over 100,000 kms to many, i know that at 107,000 the timing belt should be changed so i will make sure that has been done.
secondly, would you guys recommend buying one with or without mods? seeing as the price is usually around the same. obviously i would be getting a tune almost straight away so if i buy one with im saving roughly $1000 right?

im sorry for all the questions but i know here is the best place to ask.

looking forward to some answers, thanks guys

I would be replacing the dog bone on any Polo, I will be doing so on the one I just got.

I agree with the control arm bushes too.

Turbo bolts would be obvious on a test drive.

$699 for a Custom-Code Phase 1 tune. Leaving some money left over for suspension?

For me, I would be more concerned with a good service history over mods. As you say the price or the vehicle does vary much but $1000 coilovers becomes $1500 with fitting and alignment.

I don't worry too much about the mileage but that needs to be backed up by servicing and history. The one I just bought is on 140 and needs some tidying up.

All the best with the search

    Gavin

Clunks when going over rough terain
      Service history
      Tread on tyres.

All the issues you've mentioned can be fixed relatively cheaply, the control arm bushes are probably the hardest.

If the vehicle is approaching 100k Kim's, you are likely up for the timing belt soon which will cost 500-150 depending in where the parts come from and who does the work.
