Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC T5 Multivan - Flashing glowplug light and loss of power

Having toruble with my 2008 T5 Multivan.

I have a repeated fault that generally occurs heading uphill, under load, at constant throttle and the glowplug light starts flashing, with audible alarm, and power loss.

Originally it only happened up steeper hills at higher revs but now it appears to be happening more regularly.

Each time i have to turn the engine off and back on to re-set the fault.

I have tested the fault by 'pulsing' the accelerator which seems to fool the sensors / EMS and the fault does not occur.

I have read a number of posts which suggest issues with the DPF, Exhaust Pressure Sensor, and / or brake light system but am still mildly confused where to start

Off to the mechanics so would appreciate some advice on narrowing down where to look first.

    Cheers.

    Jim B
